The composite material chosen for application was Enforce Glass Fibre Sheet (1 layer 340mm wide, 50/50 weave) bonded with Enforce Bonding Adhesive directly onto the arch surface. The glass fibre sheet was applied onto the arch intrados over 335mm and 665mm width for the 3m and 5m arches respectively. The condition of the arch surface was generally good, but with an excess of joint material which was removed using a wire brush and cleaned.

FRP reinforced was additionally tested on arches which had already failed under static or cyclic loading by ring separation. The arch ring was drilled from the extrados and radial pins were installed at every second bricks in order to re-establish the contact between the rings. Cyclic load was than reapplied until failure.
